The Top Five Must Have Mens Fashion Accessories When Dressing For Success

The capsule wardrobe is not a new concept -- many women have perfected the art of buying a selection of core fashion items and creating several different looks with eye catching accessories. And I am glad to say that men are catching on.
It would be great to have a row of designer suits in your wardrobe, one for every day of the week. But if your budget will not stretch to that, the easier and more fun option is to own one or two great suits and purchase a selection of amazing shirts and accessories to create several stylish looks. It is much easier on the finances to buy a new silk tie than it is to purchase a new suit!
Now this is where it gets even easier. Women have a greater selection of accessories and jewelery that they can wear in the office. But if a man wants to be taken seriously in the professional world, then there is only so much he can get away with. Jewelery should be kept to a bare minimum - medallion man should stay very definitely in the eighties. And novelty ties should never see the light of day. After their suit and shirt, men really need think about five key things:
Silk Ties
A fabulous new tie is the easiest way to liven up your professional wardrobe. Go for silk ties over polyester or wool and wear patterned ties with plain shirts and vice verse. Nothing looks worse than a striped tie with a striped shirt, well okay a striped tie on a floral shirt is not a good look. Think about the occasion before selecting your tie, but don't confuse professionalism with boring!
Leather Belt
In my opinion pants never look quite right without a belt, whether its a pair of chinos or a designer suit. Teamed with a great pair of clean leather shoes in a matching color, mens leather belts just seem to pull it all together.
Cufflinks
Whilst not for everyone, cufflinks are a great alternative to jewelery for men. If you like a bit of bling, then stylish cufflinks will do the trick. They look great with a business suit and are a must for formal occasions.
Leather Briefcase / Portfolio
Nothing beats leather when it comes to a professional looking business bag, whether it is a formal briefcase or a more trendy messenger bag. Leather is durable and ages well. Many briefcases now also double as computer bags, which means you don't need to carry a second bag when you need to tote the laptop. If you don't need a briefcase, then invest in a zip around portfolio or leather compendium. They are fabulous for moving from meeting to meeting and look so much more impressive than an A4 notepad. You can carry your business cards and any brochures too.
Pens
Whilst not strictly a fashion accessory, a quality pen is a must for every businessman. Whether you prefer fountain pens or ballpoints, style and elegance win out every time over gaudy and disposable. Not only are good pens a pleasure to write with but they look the part, especially when signing the contract for that new high powered job.
