Paul Newman

It feels like we know him so personally, as the guy that makes the salad dressing. Not as Vintage as some of the others on this blog, but still an everlasting classic, Paul Newman is the everyman's Everyhero.
His food company, Newman's Own, has contributed over $220 million to charity since its inception, showing Newman's strong philanthropic spirit. He was an auto racer in the 70s, and starred in a helluva lotta great movies.
We're talking Cool Hand Luke, The Sting, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Colour of Money and The Hustler.
What a filmography!
Personally, though, he made his impact with me in Slapshot, a hockey movie that's made a huge impact in hockey culture... the movie made an impact with Newman, too, who said:
""There's a hangover from characters sometimes. There are things that stick. Since Slap Shot, my language is right out of the locker room.""
Later, I watched Butch Cassidy and The Sting, two great buddy films with his notable buddy, Robert Redford. Redford holds his own, but Newman steals the show, appearing natural and charming on screen.
He's retired from acting, apparently concentrating on the salad dressing racket, but he represents a generation of actors that held class and talent outside the studio. How many actors today display the intelligence and well-roundedness of Paul Newman?

Today's World
Always one of my favorites.
So much style...
I hope Road To Perdition wasn't his last film. I know he does so much good with his charities, but I'd like to see him on film again...
