Miss Peggy Lee

Bob’s radio station played "Fever", by Miss Peggy Lee, this morning, and I couldn’t get the sound of it out of my head. So here is the original, on You Tube, and some clips of other artists' homages to the legendary singer.

There is an active bulletin board community of fans at Peggy Lee , which describes itself as the official Peggy Lee site, and mentions her Foundation.

I emailed them and am awaiting a response, or not.

kd lang’s written memory of Ms. Lee’s musical influence on her is here Entertainment Weekly

Maria Muldaur, a distinctive singer as well, did an album of Peggy Lee, music and clips can be heard here Maria Muldaur

Love Peggy Lee and her version of "Fever" ....Ive heard numerous cover versions but none come close.....the song is used to sublime effect in kathryn Bigelow's Vampire flick Near Dark.

Hi JD,
re: Kathryn Bigelow's Vampire flick Near Dark.
I have to see a vampire movie cool enough to use Miss Lee's song....
You are tying up my future time with all these movies I haven't seen......
Oh well, I'll probably be the better for it...

Hi Katyzzz,
Yes, hearing the song, seeing the clip with photographs of her through the years, with her dignity, style, and sexiness, really was stunning for me. Bringing back a very classy lady.

Reminds me of a day when I was watching Ava Gardner and Humphrey Bogart (what great names) in The Barefoot Contessa.

It was at the point in the movie when Ava Gardner is in a casino, and leaving a man she has been traveling with, and the Count comes to her rescue.

My daughter walked in as the characters left together, and my daughter sat down on the bed, and sighed.
She said something like, ah, that's when women were goddesses, Momma.
I was surprised, and said something like, I didn't think you thought much of that?
And my beautiful girl said, oh I do, Momma. It's just not these times....There just aren't that many women who could do that now....
It isn't how we're dressed, or supposed to talk....

That was some years ago, at the height of the Britney Spears fascination (before her marriages), with retired politician and World War II war hero Bob Dole on Pepsi commercials with Britney, patting his dog and saying, Down Boy.

I think there are women, now, who could carry the appropriate attitude...
