Last Saturday, I discovered (to my delight) that channel nine have started showing old movies in the middle of the day for those of us who enjoy a lazy weekend! How wonderful that I discovered it on the day they where screening “High Society”. Naturally I have seen this movie before (many a time in fact) and of course loved it.
“High Society” stars Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby and is set in the affluent estates of America in the 1950s. The story follows Tracy (Grace Kelly) an ice-goddess who is about to be married for a second time to a safe business man. But her charming and lovable first husband (Bing Crosby) moves into the neighborhood determined to win her back. To add to the confusion, a magazine reporter (Frank Sinatra) has been sent to cover the wedding but he falls in love with Tracy too!
The movie is a wonderful musical, great comedy and has darling costumes for Grace Kelly. This was her last movie before she famously quit Hollywood to be Princess of Monaco. In this film, she looks every inch the Princess she was to become (she wore her engagement ring throughout the movie!).
For classic Grace inspiration, check out "High Society" and also "To Catch a Thief", which is set in the picturesque south of France and showcases some wonderful summer trends which are just so chic! May I suggest the silk scarf crossed under the chin with some cool shades?
Next week's movie is "Meet Me in St. Louis", a musical which stars Judy Garland. I haven't seen this before, but will be sure to catch it! Channel 9 at 1.30pm! Can't wait!
