Why? West was endowed with a voluptuous body, featuring, most prominently, natural breasts that were so spectacular, she had them insured with Lloyd's of London for $50 000.
That may sound like pocket change now, but back then, that could buy a lotta milk.
Remember, this was before the internet or even nudie magazines... seeing Evelyn perform would probably satisfy your adolescent fantasies for years.
Even today, West's pictures strike a chord in the hearts of young men... I showed a friend a picture of her (topless!) and he just shook his head sadly.
"They don't make them like that anymore," he said, almost regretfully.

Her real name was Patricia McQuellen, and she grew up in Illinois, according to this page, which also claims:
"Always searching for publicity she managed to take part in a nudist wedding organized by "The American Sunbathing Association" with which she got on well."

If I may--? Amy, burlesque is not stripping since there is never full nudity. It is otherwise known as striptease and usually involved singing, dancing or some other type of performing on the striptease artist's part. Gypsy Rose Lee was a famous striptease artist.
--And the only people who'd call that woman fat are industry whores and media scum. I think you'd have a hard time finding a normal guy who thinks she's fat...
